Class 10–11 vs Class 11–12: What Should Differ

A Class 10-11 student sitting Inter level for the first time should treat it as a direct extension of IOQM-style preparation — the topic overlap is close to complete. A Class 11-12 student at Senior level, especially one already through the INMO pipeline or preparing for it in parallel, should push toward genuinely proof-based practice: writing complete, rigorous solutions rather than just arriving at correct final answers.

Part B at Inter and Senior levels is graded on the completeness and rigor of the argument, not just the final answer — the same evaluation philosophy INMO uses. Students who only practice reaching correct answers, without practicing how to write a convincing, gap-free proof, consistently underperform their actual mathematical ability at this level.

  • Practice writing full solutions to problems you can already solve mentally — the skill of proof-writing is distinct from the skill of finding the answer.
