  • Geometry — angle chasing and properties of triangles and circles, applied rather than just recalled.

Class 8 vs Class 9: A Grade-Wise Difference

A Class 8 student attempting Junior level for the first time should focus primarily on building comfort with the four topic areas above, without worrying yet about speed. A Class 9 student — especially one who has already sat Junior level once — should shift toward timed practice and past-paper problem sets, since Class 9 is also typically the year a student becomes IOQM-eligible, and the two exams reward closely related skills.

Why This Level Matters Beyond NMTC Itself

Junior-level NMTC and IOQM overlap heavily in the skills they test — number theory, algebra, combinatorics and geometry, reasoned through rather than pattern-matched. A student who takes Junior-level NMTC seriously in Class 8-9 is, in effect, already building the exact foundation IOQM preparation needs from Class 8 onward.

A Practical Prep Sequence

  • Weeks 1–4: Consolidate each of the four topic areas individually, with untimed problem sets.
  • Weeks 5–8: Mixed problem sets combining two topic areas at once, since Junior-level questions increasingly blend techniques.
  • Final 3–4 weeks: Timed, full-length past-paper practice under exam conditions, including the written Part B.
